The Korean way of pairing Fried Chicken and Beer (Chimac) has stormed the world, and Penang once again welcomes a new Korean fried chicken brand after KyoChon. Located on the 3rd floor of Queensbay Mall, which is opposite GSC Cinema, Busan Chicken is a brand that specializes in Korean fried chicken. Although there has no variety of dishes to choose from like in other Korean restaurants, the fried chicken here is very authentic. The downside of Busan Chicken is that there are no seats for customers to dine in, so customers can only be forced to choose takeaway or delivery. Other than that, the fried chickens here are not cooked to order, so it is slightly cold when served.

Norm Micro Roastery @ Church Street Ghaut, Georgetown, Penang

I have seen many of its photos via online media about this new cafe Norm Micro Roastery in Penang and I was anticipating visiting. However, due to the flare-up of COVID-19, I've not gotten an opportunity to visit it until my outing to Penang before the Chinese New Year. Housed in what used to be once a shipping yard, the high ceilings, huge doors, and skylights allow a light and airy feel. The pebble stone flooring, curved polished cement seats, and tall trees make it even more attractive. The cafe is fully air-conditioned, so you may enjoy your meal and chill out here without worrying about the hot weather.

Ho Min San 好面善 @ Gurney Plaza, Penang

Ho Min San (好面善) is a subsidiary of Dragon-I (龙的传人) that specializes in fusion of Asian cuisine. You can now find the restaurant on the lower ground floor of Gurney Plaza. The restaurant is designed in a minimalist design with a bright and airy dining area. However, the restaurant space is quite limited. As its name implies, noodles dishes take center stage in Ho Min Shan’s menu with a wide variety of options for Cantonese-style rice vermicelli (米线).

BBQ Bar 串越時光 @ Karpal Singh, Penang

Icon City's famous BBQ restaurant has finally reached Penang Island. The restaurant is designed with the theme of Sanoriti, the Greek Island of Love. The restaurant is designed with blue and white, accompanied by a few cave-designed dining spaces. While the outside of the restaurant faces the sea, it is very comfortable and enjoyable to eat barbecue with the sea breeze.

RUTIN 樂田 - 中西料理 @ Sentral Jaya, Bukit Mertajam, Penang [GPS] [Menu]

Founded in 2019, Rutin (樂田 - 中西料理) is one of the restaurants that serve Asian and Western dishes located at Sentral Jaya, Bukit Mertajam, Penang. The restaurant is designed with a modern setting, wooden cabinet, black marble tables, and leather-comfortable chairs... fully air-conditioned. Menu-wise, the restaurant features a variety of Asian and Western dishes that make it perfectly suited to the whole family members.

Corn Dog is one of the famous street foods in Korea. It isn't the sausage wrapped with only the batter that we usually find in the market. The authentic Korean Corn Dog often stuffed with other ingredients more than just a sausage. Such as Mozarella Cheese, Cheddar Cheese, and Tteokbokki. Apart from that, the sausage will generally be covered with the batter, breadcrumbs, potato or sweet potato bites. Lastly, sprinkle some sugar on top after deep-fried will make it tastes even better.

HK Boy Cart Noodle is the best place for whoever loves the Hong Kong delights. HK Boy Cart Noodle has 2 outlets in Penang nowadays, which are located at The One Mahsuri, Bayan Lepas and Beach Street. The interior design of both the outlets has a strong element of Hong Kong street but with air-conditioned space and comfortable seating. It's certainly my favourite spot to have Hong Kong dishes in Penang. I almost visit it twice a week because the foods here are tasty and there are a variety of choices available for me to choose from.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (小龙坎老火锅) @ Sunrise Tower, Gurney Drive, Penang [GPS]

Originated from Chengdu, China, the famous Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (小龙坎老火锅) has finally set their foot in Penang, Malaysia. It is strategically located at Sunrise Tower in Penang. Xiao Long Kan Hotpot is well known for its authentic Si Chuan Hot Pot which using more than 90 types of herbs and spices imported from China. You'll feel like entering into the old Chinese building once you step inside the restaurant... the restaurant is designed with grey brick walls and adorned with many Chinese decorations, including its furniture and utensils. If you are a hotpot lover, you can definitely look forward to the best hotpot experience here.

[Revisit] PUTIEN 莆田 @ Gurney Pargaon, Penang [GPS]

PUTIEN is the brand that started out in Singapore since the year 2000 and it has almost 50 branches in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan today. In the gene of foodies, trying out the new restaurant is always the must and they might not revisit again especially for the "luxury-pricey" foods, as like the One Michelin Star restaurant - PUTIEN. Nevertheless, the reason for me to revisit is that there are still many foods that I've never tried yet on my first visit during its grand opening in April 2018.

Haidilao (海底捞) has officially opened its doors in the Northern Region, Malaysia. It's now located on the 4th Floor of Gurney Paragon, Penang. Albeit I'd tried it in Singapore once before but I would still like to try it once again... not only for its foods but also the service. The customers can enjoy the free-flow snacks, popcorn, fresh fruits, ice-cream, coffee and even free manicure service while waiting for their turn.

Spoon Cafe is a cafe nested at Level 2 of G Hotel Kelawai. The design of the cafe is reminiscent of a French bistro with a touch of Peranakan elements... the wooden dining tables and chairs, and aesthetic circus pendant lights giving sophistication to the ambiance. The unobstructed mountain view from the french windows surrounding the cafe provides a relaxing and comfortable ambiance as well.

Housed in an old heritage house at Lebuh Melayu in Penang, Chao Xuan (潮轩) is a Chinese restaurant that specialises in Teo Chew delights. Albeit Penang has many Chinese restaurants in town but Teo Chew delights or snacks seems to be scarce as compared to other Chinese foods. Chao Xuan has the strong element of Chinese traditional design... the entrance is made by the traditional Chinese red wooden door, while the interior is stuffed with the wooden furniture and some traditional Chinese decors.

Hong Kong-style Cha Chan Teng (restaurant) is no stranger to Penangites because there are already many restaurants with the same concept available in town... Hong Kong 8am is one of those. It's the Hong Kong-style restaurant located at Hutton Lane since June 2017. The design of the shop is relatively simple... there is only a large picture of Hong Kong's street on the wall. Space and seating are limited too. For the menu, although I thought that the price is wallet-friendly but the choices are limited. There are only Egg Tarts, Polo Bun, Pork Bun and Noodles with a variety of dishes.

Thai Shop, a restaurant that served the traditional Thai street foods in Penang which owned by a Thai vendor. The restaurant was previously opened their business at small alley along Kimberly Street but now move to a better location along Hutton Lane.
