Norm Micro Roastery @ Church Street Ghaut, Georgetown, Penang

I have seen many of its photos via online media about this new cafe Norm Micro Roastery in Penang and I was anticipating visiting. However, due to the flare-up of COVID-19, I've not gotten an opportunity to visit it until my outing to Penang before the Chinese New Year. Housed in what used to be once a shipping yard, the high ceilings, huge doors, and skylights allow a light and airy feel. The pebble stone flooring, curved polished cement seats, and tall trees make it even more attractive. The cafe is fully air-conditioned, so you may enjoy your meal and chill out here without worrying about the hot weather.

Finding the cafe and even the entrance may be a challenge if it is your first visit because there is no significant signboard. The cafe is located opposite of Prestige Hotel, once you see the parking lot opposite the hotel, that white building beside is the cafe. Push either side of the huge white door or "wall" in front of you when you reach the parking lot, which is then the entrance of the cafe.

Although there are only 2 pages of the menu at Norm Micro Cafe, mainly featuring western dishes and coffee, however, the dishes here are quite unique. Such as Mojo Pulled Pork Benedict, Slow-cooked Pork Ragour Pastas and Spicy Pomodoro, French Toast, and so on. Since we already had breakfast before we came, we had no choice but to order one meal and a cup of coffee.

We opted for the Prawn and Pumpkin Risotto (RM32) that was highly recommended on social media and we enjoy it so much. The sweet and mushy pumpkin goes perfectly with risotto. The natural taste of the Shimeji mushrooms, prawn, clams, crispy sage and Parmesan cheese append savory notes to the pumpkin risotto and make it appealing.

Overall, Norm Micro Roastery is a great place to spend your time and grab your meal. It is well-deserving of the hype and the queues, especially during lunch and dinner hours. I will definitely return for their exciting food menu and of course its comfortable ambiance.
